Company Profile

Thames Water

Company Overview

We’re here to deliver life’s essential service, so our customers, communities and the environment can thrive.

We do this by keeping taps flowing with high-quality drinking water and keeping toilets flushing, thanks to our waste services.

We do this 24 hours a day, every single day of the year, for over 15 million people who rely on us across London and the Thames Valley.

Our employees are at the heart of everything we do, so health, safety and wellbeing is super important to us. And we’re proud to be a diverse and inclusive place to work, where employees feel able to be themselves and give their best.

As well as our laboratories, reservoirs and sewage treatment works, our people also look after a number of stunning nature reserves that the public can visit. We even have fisheries.

Whatever your passion, if you care about making a positive impact, we’d love to hear from you.

Did you know...

When you pop the kettle on you probably don’t think about where the energy came from. But when our colleagues make a cup of tea on-site, they’re probably using ‘poo power’ to generate the electricity! We capture the methane gas from digesting sewage sludge and turn it into power. In fact, we create nearly 20% of our energy ourselves –– enough to power a city the size of Oxford! It’s just one of the ways we’re working to look after the environment.

Our jobs go beyond providing clean water and removing waste. Doing these things brilliantly is extremely important, but we also work really hard to be a force for good for society. This means doing what we can to help people and communities, as well as the natural environment.

For example, we support our elderly customers and those with medical needs by providing extra care through what we call ‘priority services’. And we can offer financial assistance for customers living in poverty, as well charitable giving.

We’ve also kept our wetlands open during lockdown to provide free access to open spaces, beautiful nature reserves and fisheries to support the local community.

Helping people in need is so important and something we’re extremely proud of.

If you’d like to know how we support the teaching and learning of STEM in schools, have a look at our comprehensive education programme – it includes educational school trips to our sewage treatment works, talks in schools, and free online resources.

We enjoy welcoming visitors to our recreational sites in London and the Thames Valley. You can find out more at: https://www.thameswater.co.uk/about-us/responsibility/days-out
