Our Estates Team manages a diverse and complex estate and we are now seeking a skilled Senior Maintenance Painter & Decorator to join our Reactive Maintenance Team. No two days are the same, and the variety of our estate brings both challenge and reward.
In this handson role, you will deliver highquality painting and decorating services across a wide range of academic, residential, heritage, and specialist buildings. You will carry out surface preparation, decorative finishes, minor plastering repairs, and safe use of access equipment, while ensuring all work meets University standards. You will also mentor and support apprentices, work collaboratively with other trades, and provide excellent customer service to building users.The role includes the opportunity to join the formal oncall rota (one weekend in every 7–8), with an additional allowance of approximately £4,300 per annum.
You will bring strong technical skills, experience working in a maintenance environment, and the ability to work independently while managing your own workload. Competence with tools, safe working practices, and good IT skills (including tablet use) are essential.

Extensive experience in all aspects of painting and decorating, including preparation, finishing, minor plastering repairs, and working to a high standard.
Timeserved apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in painting & decorating, with strong awareness of H&S, COSHH, and risk assessment processes.
Ability to work independently, manage workload, meet SLAs, and deliver highquality work with minimal supervision.
Solutionfocused, strong customerservice and communication skills, with the ability to work professionally with building users and colleagues.
Competent in the safe use and maintenance of tools, ladders, and access equipment, including compliance with PUWER and willingness to obtain PASMA.
Good IT skills, including use of email, Word, and CAFM/tablet systems for job recording and updates.
Experience working in a maintenance environment, with the ability to coordinate works and minimise disruption.
Flexible, proactive, and teamfocused, with the ability to support and mentor apprentices.
Current full valid UK manual driving license.
Due to the nature of the role, manual handling, extensive heavy lifting and working in confined spaces is required.
