This is an exciting technical leadership opportunity to shape the future of AVI/LD capability at Barnard Castle. You will lead and deliver a portfolio of projects, support inspection technology strategy, and develop inspection capability across the site.
We welcome applications from individuals with strong GMP and technical experience, even if direct AVI/LD exposure is limited — training will be provided.
In this role you will…
Technical Leadership & Expertise
- Act as the SME for Automated and Manual Visual Inspection (AVI/MVI) and Leak Detection, providing expert support across Operations, Quality, Engineering, MSAT, and central teams.
- Lead the design, development, and implementation of inspection standards for sterile and parenteral products.
- Maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies, including AI enabled inspection tools, ensuring Barnard Castle continues to apply best in class solutions.
Project & Portfolio Delivery
- Manage and deliver an investment and development project portfolio, ensuring timely, compliant, and value adding outcomes.
- Coordinate cross functional stakeholders and ensure alignment with site and network strategy.
Process & Compliance Excellence
- Monitor process performance and use data to drive improvement in inspection capability and product lifecycle management.
- Apply structured problem-solving techniques (e.g., RCA, FMEA, DMAIC, 5 Why, Gemba) to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
Capability Building & Training
- Develop and implement training programmes for quality inspectors, operators, and technical staff, including manual visual inspection qualification.
- Coach and mentor colleagues to build inspection competency within the BC MSAT inspection team.
Why you?
Basic Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- Strong experience working in GMP regulated environments, ideally sterile, parenteral, or equivalent high compliance operations.
- Demonstrated technical problem solving capability and experience applying structured methodologies.
- Proven project management skills, with the ability to deliver complex technical initiatives.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills across Operations, Engineering, Quality, and/or Technical functions.
- A degree in Science/Engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience.
Preferred Skills & Experience (Nice to Have):
- Experience with visual inspection systems (manual or automated) or leak detection technologies.
- Familiarity with AI, machine vision, or automation tools.
- Experience in technology transfer, validation, or equipment qualification.
- Experience delivering technical training or coaching teams.
- Background in sterile product inspection methodologies.
