Description
Arnold & Porter is seeking a Hybrid Cloud Engineer to join its Information Technology team. This position may be fully remote within a firm-approved U.S. state.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of Enterprise Systems Infrastructure, this role partners with IT engineering teams to design, implement, and evolve the firm’s hybrid cloud environment. The Hybrid Cloud Engineer will play a key role in modernizing infrastructure across on-premises systems, global data center colocation sites, and Microsoft Azure platforms. This includes compute, storage, virtualization, and cloud services, with a focus on performance, scalability, security, and reliability.
The role also works closely with network engineering, security, and compliance teams to ensure solutions meet firm standards, including ISO 27001 requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement hybrid cloud infrastructure across compute, storage, and global data center environments.
Evaluate existing systems and recommend improvements for scalability, performance, and security.
Develop and enhance policies and procedures to ensure high availability across all offices.
Lead integration of cloud services into existing and future infrastructure architectures.
Ensure stability and reliability by applying best practices and lessons learned post-implementation.
Maintain compliance with IT policies, including change management, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
Partner with Information Security and Compliance teams to meet ISO 27001 and other audit requirements.
Collaborate with infrastructure, networking, security, and applications teams to define and execute a global technology roadmap.
Coordinate across teams to deliver projects efficiently and effectively.
Maintain accurate system documentation, including architecture, procedures, and configurations.
Oversee implementation of new infrastructure services and enhancements to existing environments.
Stay current with emerging technologies and engage with vendors to support and evolve the firm’s infrastructure.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience implementing enterprise IT infrastructure (compute, storage, data centers).
Experience supporting large, global, multi-office environments across multiple time zones.
Demonstrated expertise in hybrid cloud environments, including systems, networking, security, and software engineering.
Prior experience in a legal or professional services environment is a plus.
Technical Expertise
Azure Hybrid Cloud: Hands-on experience with Azure VMware Solution (AVS), Azure Arc, Landing Zones, Azure Policy, and Azure Monitor.
Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Experience with Bicep and/or Terraform, Ansible plus scripting with PowerShell or similar tools.
Virtualization & Core Infrastructure: Deep expertise in VMware (vSphere, ESXi, NSX, vCenter, SRM) and enterprise compute, storage, networking, and Active Directory.
Linux Systems Engineering: Strong experience administering enterprise Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu, SUSE), including performance tuning, security, and automation.
Cloud Operations & Reliability: Experience designing highly available systems using Azure-native tools for monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and cost optimization.
Security & Identity: Knowledge of IAM, Azure AD/Entra ID, RBAC, and secure hybrid connectivity.
Operational Intelligence: Ability to leverage monitoring and telemetry for troubleshooting and optimization; exposure to AI-assisted operational tooling is a plus.
Data Protection & Storage: Experience with platforms such as Pure Storage, Nasuni, Veeam, or similar solutions.
Networking: Working knowledge of HPE, Brocade, and enterprise networking concepts.

The anticipated base salary for this position is $102,160 to $128,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will be performing the job.
