Senior Director Global Study Lead, Head
Reporting to the VP Global Clinical Study Delivery (GCSD), the Senior Director Global Study Lead (GSL) Head will be accountable for the phase I-IV Clinical Study Delivery for one of the following portfolios: Vaccines/ Infectious Diseases, Oncology or Respiratory Immunology & Inflammation (RI&I). These roles will be critical for for setting the vision and strategy for study delivery activities within the designated portfolio to enable GSK to remain competitive and lead the Pharma Industry in Study Delivery. Each GSL Head will lead a global team of > 50 staff, based in US, Europe & UK plus a growing presence in India, Poland and Canada alongside key partners across the GSK global footprint. These roles will be pivotal in realising GSK's growth ambition by ensuring the successful delivery of its complex, multi-faceted, clinical programs, overseeing the strategic and operational forecasting and execution of clinical studies across all phases, ensuring timely, budget-conscious, and highest-quality delivery.
Accountabilities
- Accountable for setting the vision and strategy for study delivery activities within the designated portfolio (i.e., RI&I, ID/Vx, Oncology) aligned to organizational goals/objectives and key culture pillars
- Leads a global team of Global Study Leaders to deliver the portfolio at pace, to budget and with quality
- Partners with the relevant functional heads in Global Clinical Operations and other key leadership to establish optimal ways of working and to ensure excellence in delivery
- Tracks key performance metrics that can be shared as part of the monthly (and annual) governance reviews.
- Drives continuous improvement in ways of working
- Accountable for resourcing leadership and methodology; ensures alignment of skills, expertise and capabilities with priority studies/assets in Close Partnership with Clinical Operations Delivery Lead;
- Accountable for driving capability development within the GSL role; driving development and skills to develop highly capable leaders who thrive in the role
Basic Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in life sciences or scientific discipline
- Significant track record and experience in line managing a decentralized team of Global Study Managers, Global Clinical Trial Managers or equivalent gained in the pharmaceutical industry
- Experience of leading a Global Study Management (or equivalent) Therapeutic Area/portfolio gained in the pharmaceutical industry
- Significant experience of hands-on global study management gained in the pharmaceutical or CRO industry
- Proven experience of developing resourcing strategies aligned to individual development needs and ensuring talent mapping to business priorities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Life Sciences or PhD or MBA
- Experience the improving capability and effectiveness of Global Study Leaders.
- Proven strategic & enterprise thinking with strong business acumen.
- A track record in leading a global project or function where people are challenged and developed.
- Proven leadership operating in a matrix environment, ability to constructively challenge practices with senior leaders; possess negotiation skills and ability to influence with or without authority at all levels of the organization.
- Experience working independently with senior executives and the ability to quickly build personal credibility and assimilate business issues/need.
- Highly effective verbal, written, presentation communications skills.
- Excellence in people/performance management and setting a clear vision/purpose, effectively engaging the organization
